The verb πρεσβεύω (Strong number G4243), "to be old, to be aged", "to be an elder", occurs only twice in the Greek Bible (88 bks) and only in Paul: in 2Cor 5,20 and in Eph 6,20. In 2 Cor 5,20, the verbal form πρεσβεύομεν, "we are the elderly" (or "we are ambassadors") is an indicative, active present tense, first person plural. In Eph 6,20, the form πρεσβεύω is indicative active, present tense, first person singular, usually translated as "I am ambassador", "I am the representative" (always and only of Christ, the Messiah, even if chained). Paul then appropriates this title, which has different shades: representative, envoy, legate, emissary, herald, diplomat, ambassador, deputy, plenipotentiary. It is on the basis of this identity of him that he announces Jesus Christ as the only Lord, through whom the world can be reconciled with God, the Creator Our Father.
