CONTESTO

Il c. 7, in Matteo, chiude il discorso della montagna, con alcuni precetti: Non giudicare, perché questo tocca al Cristo; non profanare le cose sante gettandole a cani e porci; pregare il Padre con assoluta confidenza dei figli; la regola d’oro, in cui Gesù chiede ai suoi discepoli: tutto quello che volete che  altri facciano a voi, voi fatelo a loro; questa regola è una buona sintesi della Legge e dei Profeti; quindi è necessario fare anche di più; successivamente Gesù esorta  scegliere sia la Via che la Porta stretta – lui stesso: la maggioranza sceglie via e porta larghe e comode, con conseguenze, non immediate, ma disastrose. Al v. 15, Gesù mette in guardia dai falsi profeti, che si vestono da pecore ma sono lupi, o alberi sterili come spini e rovi. Al v. 21 e fino al v. 27, Gesù fa il profilo dei veri discepoli, che non sono religiosi di professione come i falsi profeti, né operano prodigi, né scacciano demoni. Sono invece persone sapienti che costruiscono la loro casa, la chiesa sull’unica Roccia. La folla si stupisce dinanzi alla autorità e sapienza degli insegnamenti di Gesù – gli stessi che gli Apostoli, con la sua stessa autorità che viene dal Padre, dovranno proclamare al mondo, per costruire la chiesa.

PROSPETTIVE SOSTENIBILI

1. Le opere della Legge non costituiscono, per il Cristo, quella giustizia superiore che egli stesso esige dai suoi discepoli o seguaci, distaccandoli da una religiosità pia e osservante di scribi e farisei, tradizionale ma insufficiente.
2. Gesù condanna i falsi profeti, ma anche tutti coloro che, per mestiere, lo invocano Signore, Signore. 
3. La preghiera, come del resto il digiuno e l'elemosina sono opere religiose ma ambigue, in quanto non nascono dalla fede filiale di Cristo nel Padre nostro.
4. Pregare, profetare, guarire, insegnare nel Nome di Gesù, non basta per essere da lui riconosciuti suoi, nel giorno del giudizio.
5. La chiesa dunque, nella sua opera pastorale, può essere considerata insufficiente.
6. L'unico fondamento e Signore da obbedire per la Chiesa è il solo Cristo - l'unica via, l'unica porta da attraversare per arrivare alla vita nella Casa del Padre.
